WARM UP and DRAWING EXPERIMENTS

Session I: MARK MAKING
Learn how to spontaneously make marks. Part of what can make drawing difficult is our preconceptions of what drawing is suppose to be. Rather than attempting to draw something, this method helps you pile up spontaneous marks without effort or intention, which gives tremendous freedom to actually learn and explore. Being spontaneous has often been unlearned in our pressured and busy culture. This method gives you permission to experiment without the nuisance of preconceived boundaries or any kind of urgency.

Session II: FOLLOWING LIGHT & DARK
These exercises help you develop one of the many many facets of observation. Observation is truly a meditative exercise that can help us feel more regulated, calm, and enlivened. We will focus on different ways to see and create depth and dimension by responding to light and dark.

Session III: EXPRESSING MOVEMENT
These exercises will help you sense the images more deeply and notice their overall movement and quality of aliveness. This helps you develop your kinesthetic awareness which allows you to draw in ways that your body inherently likes to draw.

Session IV: NOTICING WHAT FEELS ALIVE
We’ll experiment with noticing what is feels alive, interesting or has a felt sense in our emerging sketch and will learn ways to amplify what we are experiencing.

“I was totally delighted to be encouraged to simply develop a relationship with my dream image and through this relationship learn some techniques. This was so gently and beautifully conveyed through Robbyn’s being with us and with her drawing and our drawing. The approach compliments the dream course where we are learning to being present with the ‘living images’ of our dreams. I came away from the group energized and full of love of life.”  ~ Janice

“At the beginning of class, I felt like a wet dishrag and was grieving that the class was being held today as I had no energy. After the class was over, I noticed a total change. I felt invigorated and alive again.  It dawned on me that dreams regulate emotions, and I wondered if doing art does the same thing. Robbyn is warm and accepting. She doesn’t rush through things and being in her presence feels safe. ~ Walter

I absolutely loved yesterdays workshop from a number of perspectives….The exercises were very helpful in breaking down the many negative notions I have  about drawing occurring in my head…..can’t do it, it’s awful .. AND I got into the playful aspect of making marks ..no good no bad…. ~ Mary

In all my many years of dream tending , I seemed to be stuck on form …..on a variety of levels and her suggestion to capture the feeling essence of a dream image was very very helpful…somehow all the exercises before allowed that comment to really enter when I am quite sure I have heard this many times before….The feeling of the image can be colour , line , mark….and somehow it was true in a fresh manner. ~ Vera
